Steve Buscemi got attacked while shooting a commercial in Soho, Kips Bay, last week, and the culprits are yet to be apprehended. The actor was recently spotted speaking with his crew members around Motts and Prince Street after the attack, and sadly, he suffered visible bruises and a black eye.
Thankfully, his publicist issued a statement assuring fans of his well-being, adding that the film star is “incredibly sad for everyone that this has happened while also walking the streets of New York.” Steve unsuccessfully concealed his injured face with glasses as he strolled the midtown Manhattan area in an all-black outfit.
What happened to Steve Buscemi?
According to a worker at a nearby building, the incident was caught on camera, and Steve could be seen suddenly getting punched on the side of his head by the unknown assailant. The source reported that Steve was beaten to the ground until he got up to face his attacker, who immediately ran off after shouting at him. He also deemed the occurrence unsurprising as the neighborhood is “full of people like this and it’s just getting worse.”

The witness warned residents to “look over their shoulder now,” adding that no effort is being made to curb the ongoing violence. The attacker’s photos have been released by the New York Police Department, although a former victim revealed that even if caught, they might be released the next day.
It is not the first time a celebrity, specifically from the same HBO hit series Boardwalk Empire, would face an attack in the same area. Last month, Steve’s co-star Michael Stuhbarg got slammed with a rock while jogging within the neighborhood. Luckily, Michael fought back and caught the homeless attacker, identified as Xavier Israel, after which he was taken into custody and charged with assault.
Michael suffered an abrasion at the back of his neck, but he made it to Broadway the next day, where he played Russian businessman Boris Berezovsky in Peter Morgan’s Patriots. Social media users have also shared their bad experiences in the dangerous area while urging the government to provide more security.
