Will the romance continue? How will this latest twist unfold? Soap opera lovers can take heart knowing these questions and more will, indeed, be answered on The Young and the Restless, as the series’ future is secured for not one, not two, but four more years of drama!
The Young and the Restless first went on air in the spring of 1973 and has now presented viewers with over 12,500 episodes. Starting in September 2022, days before the series celebrated its 50th anniversary, the show announced showcasts, an audio presentation of the series. Here’s what viewers can expect with almost half a decade of guaranteed plotlines to follow.
‘The Young and the Restless’ has been renewed for four more years
The Young and the Restless was set to have its renewal pact expire this May, but its future has been secured through the 2027 to 2028 television season. “The Young and the Restless has been a staple of daytime television for over 50 years, and it is with great pleasure that we will continue that legacy at CBS,” said CBS Entertainment president, Amy Reisenbach.

She continued, “The talented cast and writers deliver compelling performances and stories on a daily basis and have provided iconic moments that have kept the show on top of the ratings and thrilled generations of fans for over five decades. We look forward to seeing what new creative twists and turns they have planned for the folks of Genoa City.”
What about all the rest?
By time of writing, CBS did not specify the fate of its other juggernaut soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful. A CBS insider told TVLine that the current renewal for B&B includes an additional option year, so fans of that series should keep an ear open for updates. The CBS source did say that this option will be observed, so currently, B&B is guaranteed a future through the 2024-2025 TV season.
According to CBS, The Young and the Restless has enjoyed its 36th season as the Number 1 daytime drama series and netted 3.50 million viewers this season alone. 2028 will mark the 55th season of The Young and the Restless.
So far, in addition to The Young and the Restless, only The Bold and the Beautiful as well as General Hospital on ABC remain on broadcast TV, while other soaps such as Days of Our Lives live exclusively on NBC’s Peacock.
