Gather ’round for a night of athletic feats, great snacks, and memorable commercials! Each Super Bowl brings the promise of fun ads and this year’s was no different, featuring an ad starring Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell’s pet dog, Roy, who proved as talented as the rest of the famous family while promoting Budweiser.
The numbers are in and Super Bowl LVIII drew in 123.4 million viewers, setting a TV ratings record – and, more importantly, ensuring 123.4 million viewers got to see Roy make his on-screen debut. On top of that, Roy was part of the much-anticipated return of the Clydesdale horses.

The Russell household kicked off the week by sharing a clip of them cheering their good boy Roy on in his Super Bowl ad alongside the Budweiser Clydesdale horses. Fans of the majestic animals were saddened that they had such a small presence last year, a move that has been corrected this year and then some.

“Don’t get me wrong I love watching football,” Hawn captioned the post on Instagram, “but tonight was all about watching our dog Roy Hawn Russell star in his first superbowl commercial for @budweiserusa!!!”
The accompanying video shows a view of Russell’s family lounging around in their family room, cheering enthusiastically as the family dog appears on screen.
No confirmation yet for eager fans if the name Roy is a reference to Overboard.

In the video, Russell can be heard teasingly saying that Roy was “in front of more people than any actor in this family has ever been in front of at one time.” Of course, he was also showered in head pats for doing such a good job with such a big, scary job!
The commercial in question shows the beloved Budweiser Clydesdales saddled up and ready to deliver kegs of beer “the old school way,” though they’re battling the elements as snow whirls and sparkles around them. At one point, they lose their way – but that’s when Hawn and Russell’s dog comes in to save the day.
In her own video of the family’s watch party, Kate Hudson cheered, “There’s a lot of thespians in this families but tonight there was only one star.”
