Not every piece of knowledge is taught in a classroom. Some facts of the universe are imparted by complete strangers in passing or through personal interest – or through the latest pop culture craze. Such was the case during the final round of Jeopardy! the other night when a clue left all three contestants stumped, but Taylor Swift fans knew exactly what the answer was thanks to her music.
May 23 saw a meeting of the masters on Jeopardy! It’s not uncommon to see repeat victors, and that evening, two-day winner Diandra D’Alessio was it. But her competitors, investment associate Ilhana Redzovic and C-17 loadmaster Nathan Dennis made it hard for her to continue her streak – but even they had trouble with a historical fact that music taught millions of Swifties.
‘Jeopardy!’ contestants are left stumped by a clue answered in a Taylor Swift song
Diandra proved she was worthy of continuing her Jeopardy! streak, accumulating $15,700 total. By the time the game entered Double Jeopardy, Ilhana eclipsed Diandra that evening with $6,800, while Diandra had $2,000 even and Nathan had $2,600. Nathan quickly closed the distance when he raised his winnings to $7,400 with the Daily Double.

Then came Ilhana’s time to retaliate and she brought her score up to $21,000, while Nathan trailed in her wake with $10,756, and Diandra was stuck at $7,200. As the contestants rounded the corner to Final jeopardy, Nathan bet $3,745, while Ilhana wagered $600. Ultimately, these numbers would be a deciding factor in the final round.
The clue read, “Windermere, Thirlmere & Grasmere are 3 of the sites that helped give a 19th-century literary group this name.” No one answered correctly – after a heated back-and-forth between these three worthy contestants, they were all left stumped. But Taylor Swift fans watching Jeopardy! were pleasantly surprised to find they knew the answer.
Taylor Swift put the answer to a tricky ‘Jeopardy!’ clue in her music
33-year-old Swift is currently on her historic Eras Tour, during which she’s put together setlists that reach over 40 songs per concert. Each concert spans multiple styles and albums in her discography. The music of interest here comes from her eighth studio album, Folklore. One track titled “the lakes” contains a lyric, “Take me to the Lakes where all the poets went to die.”
