'No Time To Die' Actress Ana De Armas On Rebooting James Bond As A Woman

Ana de Armas, who recently starred in the Daniel Craig-led James Bond film No Time to Die, has recently spoken out on what she thinks of rebooting James Bond as a woman. “There’s no need for a female Bond,” she ultimately says, but would like to see something else done with female roles.

“What I would like is that the female roles in the Bond films, even though Bond will continue to be a man, are brought to life in a different way, that they’re given a more substantial part and recognition,” de Armas continues. “That’s what I think is more interesting than flipping things.”

de Armas continues, saying she believes the female roles alongside James Bond should be written better. “There shouldn’t be any need to steal someone else’s character, you know, to take over,” she says. “This is a novel, and it leads into this James Bond world and this fantasy of that universe where he’s at.”

de Armas played the role of Paloma alongside Craig in the recent James Bond film, and since then, fans have been speculating who will be the next James Bond since Craig has made it well known that he’s done with the franchise now. Bond producer Barbara Broccoli recently responded to rumors saying that there’s “no one in the running” as of now.

“We’re working out where to go with him, we’re talking that through,” Broccoli says at the time. “There isn’t a script and we can’t come up with one until we decide how we’re going to approach the next film because, really, it’s a reinvention of Bond.”

She adds that the reinvention they’re doing with the iconic character is going to take some time. “We’re reinventing who he is and that takes time,” she tells Deadline. “I’d say that filming is at least two years away.” She also adds that she’d love to have a female director join the process. “We’ll have to see what happens, we’ll start the process sometime this year I guess.”
