Will Smith Claims He Had 'Vision' About Career Being Destroyed Before Oscars Slap

Will Smith recently told David Letterman that he had a “drug-induced vision” about his career being destroyed right before the infamous Oscars slap. Smith sat down with Letterman for his Netflix show called My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, which was actually taped months before the slap took place.

In Smith’s episode, he recalls a premonition that he experienced while taking ayahuasca, a psychoactive herbal drink that also has hallucinogenic properties.

“Once you drink it, you’re going to see yourself in a way you’ve never seen yourself,” Smith explained. “One of the experiences was the individual most hellish psychological experience of my life.”

The vision he had shown his palatial home, his wealth, and successful career being ripped away from him. Smith says he has ingested said drug nearly fifteen times over the last two years. “I drank, and it usually takes about 45 minutes to kick in. And I’m sitting there, and you always feel like, ‘Maybe it won’t kick in this time.’ So I’m drinking and sitting there and then all of a sudden it’s like I start seeing all of my money flying away, and my house is flying away and my career is going away.”

He would go on to explain that things were beginning to get so hallucinogenic that he started tripping, grabbing for his money that seemed to be floating away from him. At the same time, he was thinking, “My whole life is getting destroyed.”

“This is my fear in real life, and I’m in there, and I’m wanting to vomit and all of that, and I hear a voice saying: ‘This is what the f— it is. This is what the f— life is,'” he says to Letterman. However, Smith says he came to his senses when he heard his daughter Willow call out to him, and he realized what’s more important than money—his family.

“When I came out of it, I realized that anything that happens in my life, I can handle it,” he further explains. “I can handle any person I lose. I can handle anything that goes wrong in my life. I can handle anything in my marriage. I can handle anything that this life has to offer me.”
