Madonna Defends Her Explicit NFTs Amid Controversy

Madonna defends explicit NFTs

Madonna is receiving backlash, again, but she doesn’t care. The 63-year-old was featured almost fully nude for several explicit NFTs created by the digital artist Beeple. According to Forbes, “An NFT is a digital asset that represents real-world objects like art, music, in-game items and videos. They are bought and sold online, frequently with cryptocurrency, and they are generally encoded with the same underlying software as many cryptos.”

The NFTs include a digital version of Madonna giving birth to butterflies, trees, and insects. There is also reportedly a 3D model of her vagina, leaving little to the imagination. Madonna said that the images are titled “Mother of Creation.”

She defended the images saying, “I’m doing what women have been doing since the beginning of time, which is giving birth. But on a more existential level, I’m giving birth to art and creativity and we would be lost without both.” The proceeds will also go to charities National Bail Out, V-Day, and Voices of Children.

Madonna also spoke about her vision when creating the images. She said, “I say we need a forest with creepy crawly bugs coming out of me. Not often does a robot centipede crawl out of my vagina. My journey through life as a woman is like that of a tree. Starting with a small seed, always pushing against the resistance of the Earth. The endless weight of gravity.”

She added that the purpose of the NFTs are “to investigate the concept of creation, not only the way a child enters the world through a woman’s vagina but also the way an artist gives birth to creativity.” Madonna shared a sneak peek of the images and discussed them in the Instagram video below:
