'The Waltons' Fans Not Impressed With New Reboot Film

The Waltons fans are not happy with the new reboot film, The Waltons’ Homecoming. The Waltons’ Homecoming was actually a reboot of the original Waltons Christmas special The Homecoming: A Christmas Story. The new reboot recently premiered on CW with much anticipation, but it looks like reviews are saying ‘nay.’

Sam Haskell helped produce the reboot, and said the goal behind the movie was to help bring people together to share the holiday magic. Well, a lot of fans of the original show thought the reboot film was just a bit too modern.

‘The Waltons’ fans are not happy with the new reboot film: here’s what they have to say

Since watching the original is our family’s Christmas Eve tradition, can’t help making comparisons. The plot changes were fine but the language and family dynamics were too contemporary & certain (admittedly bad) historical realities were ignored; it took me out of the setting.

Some fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the reboot. One fan writes, “Since watching the original is our family’s Christmas Eve tradition, can’t help making comparisons. The plot changes were fine but the language and family dynamics were too contemporary & certain (admittedly bad) historical realities were ignored; it took me out of the setting.”

Another adds, “The Waltons: The Homecoming (2021). WHERE’S BEN??? That’s like rebooting Happy Days and leaving out Ralph Malph.”

So disappointed in The Waltons Homecoming remake. It had none of the original’s charm. The script was awful, actors nondescript, and acting lackluster. The house was too nice for an impoverished mountain family. Only the actors who played Olivia and John-Boy were halfway decent.

One last fan shares that they hated the sound—actually, multiple fans did. “The sound is awful! The music is too loud over the characters talking. So disappointed!”

Overall, it looks like a lot of fans of the original are really disappointed with the new film. One fan even described the film as “a bad Hallmark movie” with “everybody in Waltons cosplay.” While fans were mostly disappointed with most of the film, one fan noted that “the actors who played Olivia and John-Boy were halfway decent.”
