The long-awaited sequel to the 1988 comedy-horror classic Beetlejuice has finally hit theaters, bringing back beloved characters and actors. Michael Keaton reprises his iconic role as the mischievous Beetlejuice, alongside Winona Ryder as the eccentric Lydia Deetz and Catherine O'Hara as her artistic stepmother, Delia. Yet, one notable absence is Jeffrey Jones, who played Charles Deetz, the dad, in the original Beetlejuice. Despite his character's significant presence in the story, Jones is not involved in the sequel, likely due to his past legal issues. The new cast members, including Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, Jenna Ortega, and Willem Dafoe, will join the returning stars in this highly anticipated film. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has already captivated audiences, living up to its expectations as a worthy sequel to Tim Burton's cult classic. Why is the dad absent from Beetlejuice Beetlejuice? Everett Jeffrey Jones' absence from the Beetlejuice sequel is likely due to his status as a registered sex offender. Following his 2003 conviction, Jeffrey Jones expressed remorse and apologized for his actions. He reassured that it was an isolated incident and would not happen again. However, Jones has since been arrested twice and has faced legal issues for failing to update his sex offender status in 2004 and 2010, resulting in additional probation and community service. Everett Although his past convictions and ongoing legal issues might have affected his involvement in the new sequel, he has continued to work on other films, appearing in projects like Deadwood: The Movie (2019) and My Brothers' Crossing (2020). What happens to Charles Deetz in the sequel? *Spoilers Ahead* Beetlejuice 2 skillfully navigates the absence of Jeffrey Jones, who originally played Charles Deetz, by incorporating his character's demise into the storyline. The movie begins with the Deetz family gathering to mourn Charles' passing at his funeral. Charles Deetz's widow, Delia, takes a moment to explain the unusual circumstances surrounding his death to her step-granddaughter Astrid, revealing that on a trip abroad for bird-watching, Charles perished in a plane crash and was subsequently decapitated by a shark. Everett This bizarre scenario is recreated through a stop-motion animation sequence. Later in the movie, Charles' character appears in the underworld, albeit as a headless body portrayed by an uncredited actor. While director Tim Burton and the cast have remained silent on the matter, the sequel's handling of Charles' fate speaks for itself. On the other hand, fans' opinions are divided. While some fans appreciated the nod to Jones' character and have commended the movie’s thoughtful approach in handling the character's death and the actor's absence, others are finding it uncomfortable due to his prominent presence in the film despite his real-life absence.
