It’s true that vegetables really do go bad faster when you’re the one buying them. No, but really. There are specific times for vegetables to be stored in your fridge. There are actually shorter time limits for refrigerated food than you’d think. Following these guidelines will help prevent your food from spoiling or becoming dangerous to eat.
While it’s important to consider the lifespan of your refrigerated food, it’s also important to note that frozen foods stored at 0°F can be kept indefinitely. Here are some common food items and their storage times in your fridge!
1. Salads
That includes all additional items in the salad, too. Egg, chicken, ham, tuna, and macaroni. You can typically refrigerate this for 3 to 5 days, but it does not freeze well. You should definitely eat this sooner rather than later!
2. Hot dogs
An opened package of hotdogs can last 1 week in the fridge. An unopened package can last 2 weeks. Both can be frozen for 1 to 2 months. Better keep an eye on the time!
3. Lunch meat
Open package or deli sliced luncheon meat can last 3 to 5 days in the fridge. An unopened package can last up to 2 weeks! Both can be frozen for 1 to 2 months. Looks like if you open it, you’re better off finishing the entire thing!
4. Bacon and sausage
Bacon can last up to 7 days in the fridge. Sausage, raw, from chicken, turkey, pork, and beef, can only last 1 to 2 days. Bacon can be frozen for 1 month while sausage can be frozen for 1 to 2 months. Better eat up!
5. Hamburger and other ground meats
Hamburger, ground beef, turkey, veal, pork, lamb, etc. can all last in a fridge for only 1 to 2 days. However, they can be frozen for 3 to 4 months. If you’re ever planning on putting it away, better freeze it!
