Published October 14, 2026

For generations of Disney fans, some of the happiest theme park memories involve more than thrilling rides and beloved characters. From memorable snacks to unforgettable restaurant meals, food has always played an important role in the Disney experience. Now, a new cookbook is bringing back some of those treasured flavors, giving longtime visitors a chance to revisit the dishes they enjoyed decades ago.

According to Parade, released on October 13, 2026, The Unofficial Disney Parks Retro Cookbook: 60+ Nostalgic Recipes and Stories of Yesteryear celebrates more than seven decades of Disney dining history. Written by theme park journalists Carly Caramanna and Julie Tremaine, the collection features recipes inspired by discontinued favorites, historic restaurants, and memorable treats that once delighted visitors at Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

The new cookbook features recipes from Disneyland’s early years in the 1950s alongside discontinued park favorites. Highlights include the Giant Carrot Cake Cookie from Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Taco Salad in a Ta-Cup from Casa de Fritos, and Lamb Chops with Mint Jelly from the Red Wagon Inn. Fans can also recreate EPCOT’s Warm Goat Cheese Dip and Walt Disney’s personal favorites, including chili and the Scotch Mist cocktail.

For Caramanna and Tremaine, the project goes beyond collecting old recipes. The authors believe food can preserve memories just as powerfully as photographs or familiar songs. Tremaine reflected on memorable meals she shared with friends at Disney restaurants, explaining how particular flavors remind her of the people and experiences surrounding those occasions. Caramanna shared similar feelings about the Kungaloosh cocktail from the former Adventurers Club, recalling how its familiar taste brings back cherished memories of visiting the attraction with her family.

The collection also explores how Disney dining has evolved since Disneyland opened in 1955. During the park’s early decades, restaurants such as the Red Wagon Inn offered visitors a more traditional dining experience, while establishments like Casa de Fritos introduced casual favorites that became part of theme park history. The authors even included culinary creations from the short-lived Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, including its memorable blue shrimp, recognizing that newer experiences can also leave lasting impressions on visitors.

Caramanna reflected on how social media has changed Disney dining, inspiring chefs to experiment with visually appealing dishes. Yet the cookbook celebrates the lasting connection between food and memory. Published by Harper Celebrate, it lets Disney fans recreate beloved dishes at home while revisiting cherished childhood vacation experiences. For those nostalgic for familiar flavors, the book offers a delicious journey through Disney history.
