John Travolta may be best known for Grease, Saturday Night Fever, and decades of Hollywood roles, but his latest social media moment had nothing to do with the movies. Instead, the actor shared an affectionate glimpse of life at home with his family’s rescue dog, Peanut.
According to People, in a video posted to Instagram on Sept. 17, the 72-year-old actor cuddled with the freshly bathed pup while relaxing in bed. The sweet John Travolta dog Peanut clip captured Peanut licking Travolta’s face as he laughed, kissed her, and praised her after bath time.

Travolta asked Peanut if she had just taken a bath before telling her how clean she looked. The little dog quickly moved closer and covered his face with kisses, prompting Travolta to laugh and tell her, “I’m so proud of you.” He later captioned the clip, “Peanut is happy after having a bath.”
Peanut has become a familiar face on Travolta’s social media over the years. The actor regularly shares photos and videos of their adventures together, giving fans a glimpse of his quieter life away from movie sets and red carpets.
Peanut’s Rescue Story Began at the Oscars
Peanut’s journey to the Travolta family began in 2022, when she still went by the name Mac N Cheese. Jamie Lee Curtis carried the rescue puppy onto the Academy Awards stage while honoring Betty White and her lifelong dedication to animal welfare. Before that memorable Oscars appearance, someone had abandoned Peanut in a box outside the Avenal Animal Shelter in California with her mother and three siblings. Her siblings eventually found homes, but Peanut still needed a family when the Academy Awards approached. According to Paw Works co-founder Chad Atkins, organizers initially planned to use a trained dog for the Betty White tribute. Curtis pushed for a rescue animal instead because White had spent so much of her life advocating for animals.
After the ceremony, Travolta spent about 30 minutes holding Peanut before adopting her for his son Benjamin. Since then, the John Travolta dog Peanut story has included plenty of sweet moments, from sharing pizza to sitting together in an airplane cockpit. Her journey from a difficult start to a beloved family pet shows a softer side of the longtime star.
