Snoopy is getting a fresh look for a very big Thanksgiving milestone. When Macy’s celebrates its 100th Thanksgiving Day Parade on Nov. 26, the beloved Peanuts character will appear as his famously laid-back alter ego, Joe Cool, with Woodstock tucked under one arm.
According to KGW8, the new Snoopy balloon gives one of the parade’s most familiar characters a playful makeover for the centennial celebration. Joe Cool will sport his signature sunglasses, which parade officials say measure about 40 times the size of an ordinary pair, as he soars above the streets of New York City. Macy’s has also officially listed Joe Cool and Woodstock among the new balloon debuts for its 100th parade.

Joe Cool represents the effortlessly confident side of Snoopy’s imagination. In the Peanuts world, Snoopy slips into the persona when he wants to become the coolest dog around, usually adding dark sunglasses and plenty of attitude. The official Peanuts character guide describes Joe Cool as Snoopy’s campus alter ego, one of the many identities created through his endless daydreaming.
For the parade, Woodstock will join him rather than simply watching from the sidelines. Macy’s is billing the pair as a new balloon debut created especially for the 100th celebration, and the retailer has already introduced commemorative Joe Cool merchandise tied to the event. The parade itself takes place Thanksgiving morning in New York and will air on NBC and Peacock.
