Alice Cooper is currently promoting his newly launched alcohol-free cocktail — the Sex, Drugs, Rock & Dry Cocktail. During his recent interview with PEOPLE, he noted that rockers do not have to get drunk to be punk. As someone who has been sober for 42 years, Alice says he has no desire to do drugs and alcohol ever again.
The 76-year-old is proof that rockers can still deliver just as much fun without depending on substances to perform. Alice explained that Rock ‘n’ Roll is more of an attitude than a music genre affiliated with rebellious lifestyles.
Alice Cooper reveals the inspiration behind his alcohol-free cocktail
The Sex, Drugs, Rock & Dry Cocktail is a maple old-fashioned that comes with a rye-infused vinyl of Cooper’s Breadcrumbs. As someone who drank whiskey regularly, Alice Cooper feels his cocktail is a way of outwitting his former addiction, adding that it gives him a sense of victory and satisfaction.
Alice is taking no profit for himself, as his collaboration with Whistlepig will give 100% of its proceeds to Giving Kitchen, a charity that caters to food service workers. The iconic rock star noted that his friends in the industry are also leaving alcohol behind, as Johnny Depp, his favorite guitarist from Hollywood Vampires, was having alcohol-free Heineken.
Alice Cooper gets candid about life without alcohol
Alice Cooper has never felt better since ditching alcohol, especially because it did not affect his music career and performance. His friends were also supportive at the start of his sobriety journey, as they would avoid drinking when he was nearby, even if he did not mind.
The rock scene has changed over time, unlike in the ‘70s when rockers would not hire a guy unless he got high or drank with them. Alice said that The Rolling Stones and even himself might not be alive if they continued their wild lifestyles from back then. Still agile as ever and with no plans to retire, Alice is set to kick off his Comfort World tour in a few hours.
