Wayne Osmond, the talented musician who played an important role in the family band’s success, recently passed away at the age of 73, leaving behind a legacy of music and faith. He was not only a gifted singer and guitarist but also a brilliant songwriter who co-wrote some of the group’s biggest hits, including “Crazy Horses” and “Let Me In.”
Wayne’s passing on January 1, 2025, after a massive stroke, has affected his family, especially his sister Marie, who described him as her “safe place” and source of wisdom. Despite their grief, The Osmonds remain determined to honor his memory and preserve his legacy.
Wayne Osmond was a fighter who faced numerous health challenges
Wayne Osmond was the fourth oldest of nine children and was raised in a Mormon and musically inclined household, which is why he remained devoted to his faith until the very end. He also maintained a good relationship with his siblings all through his life. Because of his family’s interest in music, Wayne’s musical began early. He started performing alongside his siblings in a barbershop quartet before transitioning into pop and rock. His talent as a songwriter was widely recognized and appreciated by millions.
However, Wayne was more than just a musician; he was also a fighter who faced numerous health challenges throughout his life. He was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 1997, he overcame the illness and continued performing until hearing loss forced his retirement. Even then, he spent his last days flying, fishing, and spending time with his family. In 2019, the musician joined his siblings Alan, Merrill, and Jay for their final performance on the TV show The Talk, and that was sadly the last time he was seen on stage.
Wayne is survived by his family and siblings
Since Wayne’s death, tributes have poured in from his siblings, family, and fans. Marie, who had a close bond with him, talked about their final moments together, saying she felt “compelled” to visit him just weeks before his stroke. She continued saying she was glad she was able to spend time with him before his stroke. She shared that she will always cherish the conversations they share. His brother Merrill praised Wayne’s humility and ability to bring people closer to God, while Donny called him the “ultimate optimist” whose presence brought light into their lives.
As they move forward, The Osmonds have promised to preserve the legacy of their brother. Wayne left behind his wife Kathlyn and five children, Amy, Steven, Gregory, Sarah, and Michelle. He is also survived by his eight siblings: Virl, Tom, Alan, Merrill, Jay, Donny, Marie, and Jimmy.
