Actress Sonya Eddy, best known for her role as head nurse Epiphany Johnson on General Hospital, has passed away. The executive producer of General Hospital, Frank Valentini confirmed the sad news.
He shared, “I am heartbroken about the loss of the incredible @TheRealSonyaEd. I truly loved her not only as actress, but as a friend. The lights in the hub of the nurse’s station will now be a little dimmer, but her spirit and light will live on in both the show and our set.”

Sonya’s close friend and fellow actress Octavia Spencer also wrote on social media with a photo of Sonya, “My friend @sonyaeddy passed away last night. The world lost another creative angel. Her legions of @generalhospitalabc fans will miss her.”

Sonya was one of the main stars of the long-running soap opera and appeared on the show for about 16 years. She also appeared in other shows such as The Drew Carey Show, Seinfeld, Patch Adams, Reba, Monk, Murphy Brown, Joan of Arcadia, CSI, Married… With Children, and Fresh Off The Boat.
At the time of posting, the 55-year-old’s cause of death is unknown. May she rest in peace.
