Lee Majors and Farrah Fawcett were one of Hollywood’s power couple back in the day. However, no matter what everyone thinks about this seemingly perfect marriage, it was anything but. Lee Majors has reflected on his marriage to the blonde bombshell and how dealing with the physical distance between them took a toll.
Both of them having their own business to deal with in their individual stardom led to not seeing each other too often at all. Majors recalls how hard that was.
“It was hard to get around,” Majors said to PEOPLE magazine, “It was not quite as hard as it is today with everyone [having] a cell phone and the social media is so quick. Back then we only had to deal with the paparazzi at large. A lot of time you could evade them, but not all the time.”
The two got married in 1973 and their relationship lasted until 1982 when they divorced (they had been separated since 1979 and the divorce was not finalized until 1982). “It was very quick, and it lasted about almost 12 years,” he said, “But there was a year or so when I think I saw her two weeks in one year. It’s very difficult with careers like that. This business is tough. Working 14 hours a day, both of you, and the days went by.”
Majors soon remarried in 1988 to Karen Velez and that lasted until 1994. Then, he tied the knot once more to his current wife, Faith, in 2002. News outlets say that he stayed in communication with Fawcett until the very end, when she passed away from cancer in 2009.
She was married to Ryan O’Neal from 1979 until her death and she has one son with him.
Majors also opened up about his big break in Hollywood and recalled his earlier roles when he would appear next to leading ladies like Barbara Stanwick and Linda Evans.
“I look back now and think I wish I’d used my stuntman a little more. My knees are a little wobbly and you feel your aches and pains. Doing the stunt work… made the day go faster and when you’re younger you feel invincible anyway. Now I don’t know why I did it!”
“I find enjoyment in every role that I do,” he continued, “An actor’s job is to work and if you sit around waiting for great, great parts you’ll still be sitting around. I just like to keep working and keep moving.”
The actor also opened up in 2018 exactly why he and Fawcett got divorced, but it’s pretty obvious by now. “I ended up seeing her two weeks in one year. She was off doing films and stuff, and doing her series, and I was doing mine. That’s mainly the reason we got divorced; we never saw each other. We stayed great friends, but we just had our own careers going and didn’t have time for each other.”
