Studies Find Regular Coffee Drinkers Live Longer Than Those Who Don’t Drink Coffee At All

by Jane Kenney

Published September 10, 2018

Calling all coffee lovers! You can all rejoice today because science has proven that people who drink coffee regularly live longer than everyone else. And by regularly, we mean four cups or more per day. So, if you ever thought on cutting down on your caffeine, you actually might want to keep things the way they are (or upgrade)!

A new study at the European Society of Cardiology Congress followed 20,000 people with an average age of 37.7 years old. The study concluded that heavy coffee drinkers were 64% less likely to die in that time than those who do not drink coffee.

David Cutler, MD, a family medicine physician at Providence Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, provided his insight on the findings. “It’s much more likely that it’s association than it is causation. Very healthy people tend to drink lots of caffeine.”

The experiment, overall, cites a lower risk of early death and that it can be a great resource for a healthy diet despite other studies that say coffee poses health risks like cancer. Among the 20,000 people that they followed over the time span of 10 years, 337 of those participants died in the process, paving the way for that 64% lower risk mentioned previously.

While it’s an exciting discovery that there is a link between regular coffee drinking and a longer life, it’s important to remember not to overdo it. Caffeine Informer has reported that there are over 20 harmful side effects that you may endure from drinking too much coffee, so it’s important to keep that in check.

They have reported that anything over 4 cups of coffee may be linked to an early death. They have also reported on a rise in blood pressure, increase in heart attacks, insomnia, digestion issues, and even caffeine overdose! Remember, caffeine addiction is a real thing. Don’t overdo it, ladies and gentlemen.

It’s important to note that while regular coffee drinking can provide some health benefits, it’s worth mentioning that it should not be over-consumed. Caffeine is a drug that can lead to serious side effects if overly consumed. Similar to how drinking a glass of red wine may provide health benefits, it’s also important not to overdo it with other drugs or enhancers.
