Kitten and husband Richard Von Mew wear only vintage clothes, decorate their home with antiques from the decade and eat a 1940s diet - including Spam and powdered eggs. Kitten Von Mew with her husband Richard and their 14-month-old daughter Betsy have embraced the 1940s. Kitten, who first became interested in the era when she began modeling as a 1940s pin-up in 2001, said she slowly became enamored with the decade's style and way of life. She said: "We've got amazing respect for those who lived through World War II. Kitten, 36, started modeling as a 40s pin-up in 2001 but it was not until five years later that she started embracing the lifestyle at home, before converting construction site supervisor, husband Richard. The pair dress exclusively in vintage inspired clothes, and tot Betsy even has an extensive wartime-inspired wardrobe. She said that she found people's motivation to get through the Second World War period "awe-inspiring". The stay-at-home mum said: "I just find the whole thing awe-inspiring how they got through it and found positivity and escapism. That's why I like to portray the 1940s pin-up." The most relaxing thing I have are vintage jeans but everything I own is either vintage or repro vintage." But while they are determined to live life as close to the 1940s as possible, the couple do use modern technology. Kitten said that while family, who live in Stratford-Upon-Avon, Warks, often used technology to connect with like-minded 1940s-lovers, they tried to hide away the evidence of it in their home. Kitten and Richard have many wartime enthusiast friends She said: "I don't like to see televisions out I and I don't want them to be the focus of the room but I'm mad on film so we have a large sideboard which I made into a television cabinet." Describing their style as "vintage eclectic", the mother said the '40s family even tried to eat like families would have 70 years ago. She said: "We do try to eat a 1940s diet - We love our spam, we are big spam eaters, we have all sorts and we love food so we eat anything but we're not fans of powdered eggs!" Kitten says the family has a 'vintage eclectic' style that permeates through their entire day. The couple's fascination with the decade even extends to their eating habits, often eating Spam for dinner. The family said that the vintage lifestyle had become more expensive after the release of war-time movies. She said her own family had not realized her interest in the era was so strong, at first thinking the interest that began in 2006 would blow over. She said: "They thought it would be a phase when I got into the modeling side of it, at least I think they were hoping it was a phase as they thought it was a bit odd. "Hopefully they're proud of what I'm doing and how far I've come." She said: "When I first started things were very reasonable and you could pick things up from jumble sales really easily. "But now the bigger following for it after war films means things are getting more expensive, I used to pick up dresses for £15 but now it's between £60 and £100."
