Jumping Jack Flash

Jumping Jack Flash

The Rolling Stones are a British rock band that have been around for decades. They have produced countless hits such as, (Can’t Get No) Satisfaction, Gimme Shelter, and Paint It Black. However, one of their more eccentric songs is what really sets them apart. ‘Jumping Jack Flash’, released in 1968, hit the top of the UK singles charts, and reached #3 on the US charts. It is the Rolling Stones’ most frequently played song during concerts, and serves as a crowd pleaser every time. This song signaled the band’s return to their blues style of music, and gained great momentum for the group. Covers of the song have been performed by various famous artists like Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner.

Do you know where the inspiration for this song came from? Well, Jumping Jack came from the name Jack Dyer. And who is Jack Dyer, exactly? Well, he is actually Keith Richard’s gardener. When Mick Jagger heard footsteps by his window, he asked Richards who it was. And he said, “ Oh, that’s Jack. That’s Jumping Jack.” And the rest, is history.

Lyrics for ‘Jumpin’ Jack Flash’

I was born in a cross-fire hurricane

And I howled at my ma in the driving rain

But it’s all right now, in fact, it’s a gas

But it’s all right. I’m Jumpin’ Jack Flash

It’s a gas! Gas! Gas

I was raised by a toothless, bearded hag

I was schooled with a strap right across my back

But it’s all right now, in fact, it’s a gas

But it’s all right, I’m Jumpin’ Jack Flash

It’s a gas! Gas! Gas

I was drowned, I was washed up and left for dead

Fell down to my feet and I saw they bled

I frowned at the crumbs of a crust of bread

Yeah, yeah, yeah

I was crowned with a spike right thru my head

But it’s all right now, in fact, it’s a gas

But it’s all right, I’m Jumpin’ Jack Flash

It’s a gas! Gas! Gas

Jumping Jack Flash, its a gas

Jumping Jack Flash, its a gas

Jumpin’ Jack Flash, its a gas

Jumping Jack Flash, its a gas

Jumping Jack Flash

They rock it again here in 1998
