Atari Is Working On A Brand New Game Console, Its First Piece Of Hardware In Over 30 Years!

Atari Jumps On Retro Game Craze

Atari isn’t the first gaming system to launch a retro comeback.

In November 2016, Nintendo launched the NES Classic Edition, a miniature version of the company’s first console. The throwback included 30 games, including mega-hits Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda. Fans were immediately taken and these little systems sold out quickly. But, much to the dismay of gamers everywhere, Nintendo announced they would discontinue making them just six months later.

Atari will also be rolling out the Flashback 8 Gold console with 120 built-in games. If you loved Pitfall!, Pac-Man, Dig Dug and River Raid, you might want to put this on your wish list early.

Video game fans might remember Atari’s last original home console was the Jaguar in 1993. The company filed for bankruptcy protection in 2013. However, Chesnais bought the company with the hopes of resurrecting the brand.

Does all this game nostalgia mean a ripe market for a new Atari? Time will tell.

If you are a devoted Atari fan, you may want to reach out the Etsy vendor who created this giant Nintendo controller coffee table. There just might be a giant, wooden Atari controller in your future.
