It is perhaps because of these reasons that your childhood was way different than other kids who grew up in the 90s or the 21st century. It was wonderful and full of excitement. Every episode was based on constant misunderstandings and financial mishaps. It still remains popular with the re-runs and DVD releases. Remember when the bench was upturned during PE and we had to walk across it. It was a pointless exercise, in my opinion, but, then again, so was PE full stop. What would you like to see NEXT? 3. We all played Monopoly, and still do, and we were all involved in Mousetrap, which is still around, thankfully. Just before we broke up from school for the summer, we were allowed to bring in a game and you were sure to be popular if you brought this beauty out! Remember this NEXT memory? 4. Clock Radio vulture.com Wow, technology was at it’s very best. Dad bought mom the Panasonic clock radio and it took pride of place on her bedside table. I was very naive as mom always had the radio tuned to the same channel and I thought there was only one on it! Mom had it for over 20 years – she never wanted it replaced as it worked perfectly. Love this NEXT memory 5. Jonny Quest vulture.com Jonny’s father was a scientist and he accompanied him on some mad adventures. This was such a cool series and if you missed it when you were young, you could watch a re-run for the next 20 years or so! There were a couple of Jonny Quest films made for TV in the late 80s and also a comic book series. Did you play this NEXT game? 6. Trapper Keeper pinterest.com Launched in the late 70s, just about every pupil in the Stares had a Trapper Keeper. If you didn’t, you were definitely an outcast! They were always brightly colored and often had themes. I remember they even featured them on Dawson’s Creek and Full House. I got a new one at the start of every school year and you had to buy them early or you couldn’t get the design you wanted. I remember this NEXT dance. Do you? 7. The Bump pinterest.com One of the unusual dance moves from the 70s. I suppose it wasn’t that odd, bearing in mind we also sat on the disco floor, in a long line, and rowed the boat to “Oops Upside Your Head” (the Gap Band). If you were partners with a groovy dancer, the bump was executed smoothly but, if one of you didn’t have the right rhythm, it looked like you were just invading someone else’s space. I would sometimes use Kool-Aid or Hi-C Grape Juice in the molds and once, when my friend and I were making them after school, we used Jello, which tasted great when frozen. I also had the swingers, group of 4 monkeys, which I was particularly fond of. I ended up selling them all at my dad’s garage sale many years later. Pippi Longstocking pinterest.com Pippi Longstocking was an unusual girl in that she was financially independent, with a sack of gold pieces. She could sail the Seven Seas and was stronger than the strongest man in the world, lifting a horse as proof of this! I read all the books and loved the TV show, as well as the movie. She instilled confidence in us young girls and made us feel we could do anything if we put our mind to it – if only this were true!
