Bond Girl Barbara Bach Turns 80 After Leaving Hollywood For A Quiet Life With Ringo Starr

by Ruth A

Published August 28, 2026

Barbara Bach turns 80 on August 27, marking another milestone for the former model and actress who became one of the most memorable women in James Bond history. Long before she stepped into the world of 007, Bach had already built an international modeling career and appeared on magazine covers around the world.

According to Remind, today, Barbara Bach lives a much quieter life than she did during her years in front of the camera. She retired from acting around four decades ago, but she still occasionally appears in public alongside her husband, former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr. The couple celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary in April 2026.

After high school, Bach shortened her surname and began modeling with the Eileen Ford Agency. Her career quickly took off, and she appeared on major magazine covers, including the July 1966 issue of Vogue, photographed by Richard Avedon. Her acting career began in Italy with L’Odissea in 1968. After several film roles, Bach landed her defining part opposite Roger Moore as KGB agent Anya Amasova in 1977’s The Spy Who Loved Me.

The character stood out because she was more than simply Bond’s romantic interest. Amasova was a skilled agent in her own right, working alongside Bond after British and Russian nuclear submarines mysteriously disappeared. Bach later appeared in films including Force 10 from Navarone, The Humanoid, Up the Academy, and The Unseen.

Bach met Starr in 1980 while filming the prehistoric comedy Caveman. Although they played romantic interests onscreen, Bach later said they did not become a couple until the final week of production. They married in London on April 27, 1981, with guests including Paul McCartney and George Harrison. It was the second marriage for both. Bach had two children, Francesca and Gianni, while Starr had three, Zak, Jason, and Lee. Barbara Bach continued acting briefly after their marriage, including a cameo with Starr in Paul McCartney’s 1984 film Give My Regards to Broad Street. Her final credited role came in the 1986 short film To the North of Katmandu.

Since leaving acting and modeling, Bach has lived a quieter life in Los Angeles with Ringo Starr. The couple still makes occasional public appearances and supports several causes through their Lotus Foundation. At 80, she remains linked to both James Bond and Beatles history while enjoying a marriage that has lasted more than four decades.
