Katey Sagal has reached a deeply personal milestone. The 72-year-old actress, forever remembered by many television fans as Peg Bundy on Married… with Children, recently celebrated 40 years of continuous sobriety surrounded by the people closest to her.
According to People, Sagal marked the occasion with a garden party on August 22, attended by her husband, Kurt Sutter, and her three children, Sarah Grace White, Jackson White, and Esme Sutter. The following day, she shared photos from the celebration, including one of herself standing beside a table filled with flowers, treats, and a large cake.

Sagal has been sober since 1986, but she has never hidden how difficult the road to that milestone became. In a 2025 appearance on Christina Applegate and Jamie-Lynn Sigler’s MeSsy podcast, she explained that she began using drugs and alcohol when she was only 15.
The actress said she spent years using substances to avoid painful emotions, including losing her parents and facing cancer in her 20s. Sobriety forced her to confront those feelings and, she said, required courage and support. In her anniversary post, Sagal thanked her husband, friends, and three children, calling the milestone a reminder of how wonderful life can be.
