During a recent interview, Vergara spoke warmly about Ed O’Neill, who portrayed her on-screen husband, Jay Pritchett. Because many of her scenes throughout the series involved O’Neill, she spent more than a decade working closely alongside him and credits him with helping her navigate one of the biggest opportunities of her career.

She explained that the veteran actor became an important source of support when she joined the show. Since it was one of her first major acting roles, having someone with O’Neill’s experience made a tremendous difference. According to Vergara, his guidance and friendship helped her through the challenges of starring in a successful network comedy, and she remains grateful for the role he played in her journey.

The Cast Still Keeps Their Group Chat Active

Although the series ended six years ago, the Modern Family cast continues to stay in touch through a group chat that remains surprisingly active. Vergara joked that conversations can become a little confusing because O’Neill occasionally responds to messages several days later, leaving everyone else trying to remember what topic he is referring to.

Their continued connection reflects the strong relationships formed during the show’s long run. The cast famously reunited in 2023 for a special gathering that brought many of the stars back together for the first time in years. Vergara later described the experience as exciting and emotional, noting that despite the time apart, it felt as though they had only recently left the set. For fans of the beloved sitcom, it’s a reassuring reminder that the friendships seen on screen continue to exist behind the scenes as well.
