Shania Twain is opening up about a deeply personal chapter of her life, revealing how menopause ultimately helped her develop a healthier relationship with her body. The country music superstar recently reflected on the challenges she faced as her body changed with age and how those experiences transformed her perspective on self-acceptance.

Today, the Grammy-winning performer speaks with confidence about embracing who she is, but she admits the journey was not always easy. According to PEOPLE, there was a time when she struggled to recognize herself, felt frustrated by physical changes, and pushed herself too hard in pursuit of an ideal she could no longer maintain. Looking back, she now sees those years through a very different lens.

During a recent interview, Twain recalled a period when she found it difficult to even look at her reflection. As her body changed over time, she felt disconnected from the image she saw in the mirror. She explained that bloating and other physical changes left her feeling like she was losing control over her appearance, something she had previously managed through strict routines.

The singer also admitted that her efforts to stay thin led her into unhealthy habits. Rather than properly nourishing herself, she focused heavily on maintaining a certain weight while continuing to meet the demands of her career. She later realized that those choices were taking a toll on her overall well-being and even contributed to physical strain. Reflecting on that period now, she recognizes just how damaging those patterns had become.

How Menopause Helped Her Embrace Self-Acceptance

The Shania Twain menopause experience became a turning point in her outlook on aging and self-image. Instead of fighting every physical change, she says she learned an important lesson: some things simply cannot be controlled. Accepting that reality helped her let go of insecurities that had followed her for years and focus on appreciating herself as she is.

That shift in perspective has allowed her to celebrate her body rather than criticize it. In recent years, she has spoken openly about feeling more comfortable in her own skin and even posed for photos that reflected her newfound confidence. The Shania Twain menopause experience also inspired a message she hopes other women will hear: self-consciousness and fear should not prevent anyone from embracing who they are. By learning to accept change instead of resisting it, she found a level of confidence that she says is stronger than ever.
