Published August 7, 2025

  • On August 7, it has been reported that Brandon Blackstock has passed away at the age of 48.
  • Blackstock was the ex-husband and talent manager of artist Kelly Clarkson.
  • Earlier in the week, Kelly Clarkson had announced he’d fallen ill and she postponed her Las Vegas residency to spend time with their children.

Brandon Blackstock, a prominent talent manager and ex‑husband of singer Kelly Clarkson, passed away on August 7, 2025, at 48 years old after a private, three‑year battle with cancer. He died peacefully, surrounded by family, leaving behind his two children with Clarkson, River and Remington, as well as two from a previous marriage. His passing came amid renewed public attention to his health, prompting Clarkson to delay her Las Vegas residency to focus on co‑parenting and family matters.

Blackstock earned recognition in the entertainment industry through his work at Starstruck Entertainment, where he managed high-profile artists, including country star Blake Shelton. Beyond his professional achievements, his marriage to Kelly Clarkson from 2013 to 2022 and their shared creative collaborations made him a familiar figure in pop culture and the music world. He is also a former stepson of Reba McEntire.

“It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away,” announced a spokesperson for the family. “Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”

Blackstock shared children River, 11, and Remington, 9, with Clarkson. He also shared children Savannah and Seth from a previous marriage. After Lake gave birth to a son in 2022, Blackstock also became a grandfather.

Clarkson, at the height of Blackstock’s illness, announced, “While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them.”

However, Blackstock has had a high-profile life, as he is also a former stepson of country music icon Reba McEntire; his father, Narvel Blackstock, had once been married to the “Fancy” singer from 1989 to 2015.
