Legendary musician Billy Joel has announced the cancellation of all his upcoming concerts after being diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), a neurological condition that affects balance, vision, and hearing. The 76-year-old artist shared the news in a heartfelt statement, expressing his regret over disappointing fans and emphasizing his commitment to prioritizing his health during this time.
The diagnosis comes after Joel experienced a fall during a February performance at the Mohegan Sun resort in Connecticut. Despite completing the show, attendees noted that he appeared unsteady and frail on stage. Subsequent medical evaluations revealed that recent performances had exacerbated his condition, leading to the decision to halt all touring activities.
Billy Joel has been diagnosed with a brain disorder
Normal pressure hydrocephalus is characterized by an accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain’s ventricles, leading to increased pressure that can cause walking difficulties, cognitive challenges, and urinary incontinence. While the condition can mimic symptoms of Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease, it is potentially reversible with appropriate treatment.
Joel’s canceled tour included dates across the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, with planned performances alongside artists such as Sting, Rod Stewart, and Stevie Nicks. Fans who purchased tickets for the affected concerts will receive automatic refunds.
