Fran Drescher’s Mother’s Day celebration this year took a beautiful turn. The Nanny star reunited with her on-screen mother, Renée Taylor, for a brunch that also included her real-life mom, Sylvia. The trio shared memories over the weekend at Kaluz in Fort Lauderdale, giving fans a glimpse into their relationship behind the camera.
Drescher, 67, and Taylor, now 92, delighted followers by posting photos of the gathering on Instagram, where fans could not help but express their admiration. The Nanny aired from 1993 to 1999, and for longtime viewers, it was a sweet full-circle moment, especially since Taylor’s character, Sylvia Fine, was originally inspired by Drescher’s actual mother, who joined the cast.

Over the years, viewers have remained fond of The Nanny, especially Renee Taylor’s character, Sylvia. A signature part of the sitcom came from the exaggerated, comedic version of a Queens home. Drescher’s character, Fran Fine, is a former bridal store worker in Flushing, Queens, who works as a nanny for a wealthy Manhattan family after her boyfriend dumps her.
Interestingly, though Taylor’s character shared a name with Drescher’s real mom, Taylor once revealed that her inspiration came from her own aunt in the Bronx. She shared that the relative had a flair for the drama, complete with parasols at the pool, and was often flirtatious. The real-life Sylvia and her husband Mort, namesakes of Drescher’s TV parents, enjoyed a brief moment in the spotlight themselves. They even appeared multiple times on The Rosie O’Donnell Show, giving restaurant reviews and joke that delighted viewers.
Life after ‘The Nanny’
Despite Taylor having appeared in several movies before The Nanny and even receiving an Oscar nomination for co-writing Lovers and Other Strangers, her role as Sylvia Fine continues to resonate with fans.
Taylor has said that many fans still approach her as Sylvia Fine, sharing personal stories and calling her by name as if they had known her forever. Fran Drescher is set to reprise her role as Bobbi Flekman in the upcoming Spinal Tap II and serves as president of SAG-AFTRA.
