Cyndi Lauper has spent over forty years in music without going unnoticed, until now. The New York-born singer, known for her vibrant sound and unpredictable style, was seen moving through Sydney Airport on Thursday with barely a fuss. She’s one of the most recognizable faces in pop culture, but this time, that wasn’t the case at all.
The singer wore a denim jacket over a black blouse, dark sunglasses, and a Goonies-themed beanie, as she kept her presence low. She paired the outfit with black pants and walked with ease. The only giveaway was a small grin that longtime fans would recognize instantly.

Her farewell tour, titled Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, began in October 2024 in Montreal, Canada. The Australian leg has seen her perform to packed venues in Brisbane, Newcastle, and Sydney. Adelaide is next on April 10, and she’ll end the run in Perth on April 12. Australian pop duo The Veronicas are joining her as supporting acts during the tour.
Lauper had mentioned she wanted this to be her final tour while she’s still in good health, choosing to say thank you to her global fanbase in person. In March, before her arrival in Australia, she appeared on The Project where she spoke about her most famous song. Originally written by Robert Hazard, she reshaped “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” into what it is today, a pop track with a feminist edge.
