Cyndi Lauper and Madonna led the pop scene in the early ‘80s, dropping their debut albums containing hits that still make waves today. The first release came from Madonna, who dropped The First Album featuring “Holiday,” “Dress You Up” and “Borderline.”
Cyndi followed with She’s So Unusual, the one with her evergreen track “Girls Just Want To Have Fun,” plus “She-Bop” and “Time After Time.” Soon enough, there were rumors of a feud brewing between both ladies, which Cyndi has now denied decades later.
Cyndi Lauper claims her feud with Madonna was made up
She addressed the alleged issue with Madonna during a recent interview with PEOPLE. The 71-year-old said it was all a made-up attempt at putting women against each other. Cyndi is vocal about her feminist stance and believes the media tries to trump the progress women in the industry have made with juicy lies.
She added that Madonna’s music inspired her, specifically “Like A Prayer,” and she could not have hated the Queen of Pop. Cyndi noted that she was open to healthy competition but hated the idea that two female artists could not flourish at the same time.
She says she is not that wild
Cyndi’s reputation as a wild, carefree child was formed by her lyrics and appearance; however, she thinks her true personality is a contrast to the idea fans have. She does not smoke, do drugs or turn to alcohol as music is enough to get her high.

Madonna, on the other hand, is quite daring with her fashion and romantic escapades and knows how to get people talking. She has been in a few controversial relationships, including her recent one with Akeem Morris, who is 38 years younger.
