The music world received bittersweet news when Mathis decided to step away from touring and live performances. In the official statement via his Facebook account, his team explained that the 89-year-old icon was facing problems related to old age and accelerated memory issues, which have been making it quite difficult for him to keep performing.
Despite the unprecedented nature of the announcement, the statement revealed that Mathis is fully committed to completing his 2025 Voice of Romance Tour. His final performance is slated for May 18 at the Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood, New Jersey, although all other shows scheduled beyond June have been canceled.
