SNL Pays Tribute To Val Kilmer

Saturday Night Live paid tribute to the late Val Kilmer in the last few moments of its recent episode, honoring the life of the veteran actor who passed away recently at 65. As host Jack Black signed off, a solemn tribute flashed across the screen, displaying Kilmer’s photo and commemorating his contributions to film and comedy.

Kilmer was known for legendary roles in Top Gun, Batman Forever, and The Doors. However, he once hosted SNL in December 2000. In that unforgettable episode, he demonstrated his comedic talent by making jabs at his own iconic characters. The surprise appearance gave a glimpse into his playful, uninhibited side, which was a relief from his serious on-screen persona.

The SNL tribute that Val Kilmer received may have been short, but it struck a chord with fans and the entertainment community. Saturday Night Live honored his past work while taking a moment to highlight his cultural impact. For many, it was a bittersweet but fitting farewell.

Kilmer’s first appearance was memorable, as in “Iceman: The Later Years,” he spoofed his Top Gun role as an aging pilot, delivering laughs alongside castmates Will Ferrell and Chris Parnell. Another standout was his portrayal of Jim Morrison in a heavenly rock band sketch, which was an absurd but brilliant nod to his role in The Doors.

Val Kilmer is remembered on and off screen

Though Kilmer hosted just once, he returned to SNL over a decade later for a surprise cameo alongside Andy Samberg and Katy Perry. His return to the show revealed a great sense of appreciation for viewers, and even in poor health, he continued to remain active and engaged in the entertainment world.

Aside from SNL, Hollywood stars including Tom Cruise and Will Forte also paid tribute to Kilmer, whose talent and kindness left a lasting impression on those he collaborated with. Although the tribute from SNL was brief, it depicted the respect Kilmer earned throughout his working career and life.
