The stakes are higher this time as the Mission: Impossible franchise heads toward its grand finale. The eighth installment, Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, is set to start showing in theaters on May 23, promising fans one last ride through chaos, espionage, and near-death escapes.
Apart from Tom Cruise’s fearless Ethan Hunt, familiar faces like Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, and Vanessa Kirby will also return to the IMF team. Hayley Atwell, Shea Whigham, Pom Klementieff, and Henry Czerny are also back in action. The story picks up directly after the events of Dead Reckoning, with Hunt and his team chasing down the powerful AI known as the Entity while the threat of global destruction leaves the whole of humanity at risk.
Tom Cruise performs even more insane stunts in ‘Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning’
On April 7, fans got their first full glimpse of the madness to come when Paramount Pictures dropped the action-packed trailer for The Final Reckoning. The preview revealed not just the returning heroes and villains but also new faces played by Hannah Waddingham, Nick Offerman, and Tramell Tillman.
As expected, Cruise takes the action up a notch. In a blur of breathtaking scenes, he’s seen clinging to the side of a speeding aircraft, plunging into the ocean from an aircraft carrier, and performing underwater stunts with no hesitation. Each frame shows so much intensity and proves once again that no one commits to a stunt like Cruise.
Tom Cruise has always performed extreme stunts in his movies
For over three decades, Cruise has built a reputation for doing what most actors wouldn’t dare attempt. He has scaled the Burj Khalifa in Ghost Protocol, held his breath underwater for over six minutes in Rogue Nation, and consistently pushed his physical limits just to show his authenticity.
Across all Mission: Impossible films, he has insisted on doing his own stunts, which has earned him both admiration and raised eyebrows in Hollywood. Outside the franchise, he’s also jumped out of planes in American Made, hung onto helicopters in Fallout, and even learned to fly fighter jets for Top Gun: Maverick.
