Beverly D’Angelo became a household name playing Ellen Griswold in the National Lampoon’s Vacation franchise, but unknown to many, she nursed another passion before Hollywood. Beverly was a singer and started her career as a backup vocalist for Canadian rock legend Ronnie Hawkins.
This was long before she stepped into the spotlight as an actress, plus she did show off her voice in films like Hair and Coal Miner’s Daughter before acting became her main career. Despite the fame, Beverly never let go of her dream and at 73, she’s finally making it a reality.

Beverly may not be on Hollywood sets as often, but she’s far from slowing down. She recently performed in Patsy Cline: Walkin’ After Midnight, a star-studded tribute where she sang “Too Many Secrets.” The concert aired as part of Great Performances and featured rare interviews about Cline’s life.
Beverly is also working on a documentary that follows her journey back into music. Her plan is to drive across America, stopping in small towns and singing in places where live music is not common. According to her, she wants to experience the raw, unfiltered joy of performing again — not on a big stage, but in spaces where music truly connects people.
Beverly D’Angelo’s Hollywood journey
Beverly’s Hollywood career has been an impressive journey, and though National Lampoon’s Vacation made her famous, she had standout roles in many other films. She starred alongside Al Pacino in the thriller Sea of Love and played a compelling role in American History X.
She showcased her comedic prowess in Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay and delivered another admirable performance in Sweet Temptation. Beyond film, Beverly left her mark on television. She played the sharp-tongued agent Barbara Miller in Entourage, appeared in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and even had roles in Mom and Shooter.
