In a discussion with CNN about the new documentary Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, which centers on her father’s life and career, particularly focusing on the traumatic period following the 1995 horseback riding accident that left him paralyzed from the neck down, Alexandra reflected on the bond between her father and his close friend, Robin Williams, which she described as akin to that of brothers.
She noted that Robin Williams was there for both her father and the whole family all through the challenging time, as he was even the first person to get Reeves to laugh when he came by his sick bed, wearing a scrub while pretending to be a Russian doctor.
Robin Williams remained by Christopher’s side during his last days
The 41-year-old noted that Williams remained continuously present in Reeve’s life while recovering from the accident. Alexandra stated that for about a decade after the incident, Williams and his second wife, Marsha, consistently provided emotional support to her dad and family. Robin Williams made it a point to celebrate the anniversary of Reeve’s accident, which they tagged as his “life day,” making light of the tragic event by focusing on his survival and the positivity of the journey.
