Steve Irwin, popularly known as the “Crocodile Hunter,” won over millions of hearts with his contagious passion for wildlife conservation and his distinctive style of combining comedy and direct storytelling to teach people the value of animal protection. However, his life was tragically cut short on September 4, 2006, when he was recording an underwater documentary and was fatally struck in the chest by a stingray barb. Despite his untimely passing, his family has carried on his legacy.

Recently, Bindi Irwin, his daughter, talked about her early years with her father, who died when she was only eight years old. She disclosed information about some of the private struggles of her beloved father.

During an appearance on Sarah Grynberg’s ‘A Life of Greatness’ podcast, Bindi revealed that her late father suffered from a hidden health condition, Insomnia, which affected his sleep pattern. She mentioned that a normal day for the Crocodile Hunter started as early as 2a.m and by the time everyone was fully awake, he would have already done enough work for a day.

The 26-year-old, who is also following in the footsteps of her dad, explained that she was reminded of his private struggles recently when the family was sorting some of his personal effects in his old office at the Australian Zoo where he worked.

Bindi also noted that while going through his workspace, they discovered a lot of scientific research that he was working on prior to his death. She stated that while people might only remember him as the passionate and wild human being who kept them glued to their television screens due to his daring adventures with highly dangerous animals, his scientific mind, though relatively passive, was a very important aspect of his life.
