At 66, Andie MacDowell is prioritizing her comfort over trying to look good at the cost of her well-being. She recently experienced a wardrobe mishap while getting ready for a red carpet-event, as her dress did not fit. She had it on for some minutes while trying to get the zip up, however after some thought she let it go.
The experience taught Andie a lesson or two, which she decided to share with Glamor magazine during an interview. She also shared a similar experience with People at L’Oréal Paris’ Women of Worth Celebration.
Andie MacDowell vows not to force an outfit on herself
She suffered a great deal of discomfort around her rib cage after trying on the dress, and this made her reflect on how much pain female celebrities endure underneath their outfits to look aesthetically pleasing. She refused to endure such at her age, noting that she has a great body.
Andie admitted to feeling shameful about not getting the dress to fit; however, she quickly snapped out of the guilt. She believes her brief feeling of inadequacy about her looks is a result of society’s unrealistic standards for women.
Andie MacDowell is focusing on more fulfilling ventures
For Andie, she is far past trying to impress the public and would rather invest her time and money in fulfilling endeavors such as bird watching, reading books, spending time on the beach and the like. In her words, she would rather spend five pounds on herself than on trying to look good.
She referenced Demi Moore’s award-winning movie, The Substance, saying it is an example of how celebrity women go to extreme measures to please society. The mother of three is proud of her matronly appearance, which she gained after having kids and struggled to fix for years before finally giving up.
