Elvis didn’t want to marry Priscilla

Elvis Presley‘s legacy lives on and his personal life remains a topic of interest to fans who are excited to know new things about the late star. Elvis Presley’s marriage to Priscilla Presley was a controversial one due to the 10-year age gap between them, and it became the major highlight of Elvis’s career even though it was short-lived

Despite his romance and eventual marriage to Priscilla Presley, those close to the king of Rock and Roll are of the opinion that marriage was never something Elvis truly desired. Elvis Presley’s cousin, Danny Smith, recently shared that the singer likely preferred the freedom of a single life.

In a video, Danny Smith reflected on Elvis’ relationships, including his marriage to Priscilla Presley. “Just my opinion—no doubt Elvis loved Priscilla. He loved a lot of women. Did he want to be married to any of them? I don’t think so.” He noted Elvis Presley cherished his independence and struggled with being in the confines of marriage.

Decades ago, Priscilla Presley herself shared a glimpse of her marriage to Elvis. In a 1973 interview with Ladies Home Journal, she recalled meeting Elvis at just 14, moving to Graceland in 1963, and tying the knot in 1967. She admitted that even though people assumed their wedding came out of the blues, she and Elvis had always talked about it.

The couple’s marriage lasted six years before it ended due to Elvis’ demanding lifestyle and alleged infidelities, according to Priscilla in an interview in 2017. “He wasn’t faithful,” she admitted. Elvis’ manager, Colonel Tom Parker, may have also influenced his views on marriage. To maintain Elvis’ image as a single heartthrob, Parker encouraged Elvis to remain single and date other women throughout the 1960s, including Ann-Margret and Sandy Martindale.

Despite this, Elvis and Priscilla stayed close after their divorce, maintaining mutual respect and friendship. Priscilla shared that they still contacted each other and often spoke on the phone, encouraging and providing insights to one another until he died in 1977.
