Elvis Presley’s unique bedazzled jockstrap was put up for auction by Paul Fraser Collectables, giving fans a rare chance at owning an eccentric piece of the King’s history. The auction came a day after what would have been Presley’s 90th birthday.
Starting bids for the dazzling item were set at $42,000, with experts expecting it to fetch much more. According to the auction house, the iconic item, which was showcased in a stylish frame, is part of a larger rock-and-roll-themed auction.
Elvis Presley’s bedazzled jockstrap was gifted by a fan
Reports suggest the jockstrap was a gift from one of Presley’s devoted fans. Although it was a part of the Elvis Presley Museum collection in Memphis, it remains unclear whether the iconic singer ever wore the glittery piece. Regardless, its unusual design made it one of the most talked-about items at the auction.
The sparkling jockstrap features bright clear gems covering the cup, and comes with Presley’s initials spelled out in blue beads on the waistband and is covered in shiny rhinestones. It has been described as a bedazzled beauty and a part of rock-and-roll history.
Elvis Presley’s jockstrap is not the only item getting auctioned
The jockstrap is not the only Presley collectible to make headlines. Over the years, numerous personal items of the King have been sold for thousands of dollars, including his clothes, jewelry, and handwritten letters. Recently, even Elvis’s legendary Graceland mansion faced a potential auction that turned out to be a scam.
The 13.8-acre property, which serves as a museum and major tourist attraction, was almost sold due to a $3.8 million unpaid loan by his late daughter, Lisa Marie Presley. Thankfully, Elvis’s granddaughter Riley Keough, who now oversees Graceland, attended to the threat with a restraining order and legal action to block the sale last May.
