Debbie Harry will turn 80 years old this year. As such, the singer has a lot to say about aging, especially the darker side of it. In an interview, she opened up about the pain of outliving those she has known as friends and the lessons she learned from her mother while growing up.
“I don’t walk around thinking every minute, oh my God, I’m going be 80, but that’s sort of how I feel. My mother used to say in her head she was 25 and I’m the same.” The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member said and added that aging would be beautiful if one could avoid “thinking about aging all the time” as it could be the “downfall” of such.
Debbie Harry talks the dark side of aging
In the same interview, the singer, who would turn 80 by July 1st, spoke about the part of aging that is not known to all. “One of the bad things about aging is everyone’s gone already,” she said as she made plans to celebrate her birthday in a grand style, dancing with everyone who attended the party.
Meanwhile, Debbie Harry also has some great things to say about aging. She has learned several lessons along the way and plans to make use of them in this unique stage of her life. “That’s the beauty of aging, you know what it’s about. You have it in your heart and soul and your memory bank … or does that sound like an excuse? Should I go out and party every night?” She said.
Debbie Harry says “everyone’s gone”
Debbie Harry’s age is a great milestone in the music industry, and she is grateful for her life, one which she does not consider a result of chance. “It hasn’t all been lucky, but I feel I’ve been treated very generously by the fickle finger of fate, and I’m just more content than I used to be. I tried very hard to do something and succeeded, and having some success is a terrific elixir.”
Debbie Harry is dedicating her late years to philanthropic course, especially fighting cancer and endometriosis.
