The 39th President of the United States, Jimmy Carter, was the longest-living one in the country’s history. A few months after celebrating his 100th birthday and fulfilling his wish to vote for Kamala Harris, who eventually lost the election, Jimmy died while in hospice care.
Jimmy spent months in hospice with his late wife, Rosalynn Carter, until she died in November 2023 following a long battle with dementia. During their lifetime, Jimmy and Rosalynn had four children together, namely John William, James Earl, Donnel Jeffrey, and Amy Lynn.
Meet Jimmy Carter’s children
Jimmy had his first child and son, John William, in 1947 while serving in the Navy. He joined the Navy after his degree at Georgia Southwestern State University; however, he was reportedly discharged for smoking marijuana.
His younger brother James was a part of the Democratic National Community after his election for Plains city council. The late Jimmy once revealed a fun fact about how James and singer Willie Nelson smoked marijuana on the White House roof. He disclosed this in the Jimmy Carter: Rock & Roll President documentary, which featured interviews with the likes of Bob Dylan, Bono, and Nelson.

Like his older siblings, Jeff also attended Georgia State University, where he studied geography with a specialization in computer cartography. After college, he co-founded the Computer Mapping Consultants company with his professor. He is a father of three and reportedly lives just fine alone despite suffering from Parkinson’s disease.
Jimmy and Rosalynn’s last child and only daughter, Amy, was the only one who did not go to school at Georgia Southwestern State University. She has actively participated in political activism and once got arrested for protesting CIA recruitment at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
