John Fogerty’s holiday wishes to fans came with good news about Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Bad Moon Rising” hitting a record one billion streams on music streaming platform Spotify. The announcement was John’s Christmas gift to the band’s supporters, who were in the comments expressing their excitement at the achievement.
The 79-year-old added that “Bad Moon Rising” is the third song to get that many streams, right behind “Have You Ever Seen The Rain” and “Fortunate Son,” with the former getting close to 2 billion listens.

John’s announcement received heartwarming reactions from his followers, some of whom bragged that they contributed to a bulk of the streams thanks to the timeless quality of “Bad Moon Rising.” “The world is a better place because of your music. All the CCR songs have been played a trillion times,” someone wrote, noting that streams stats became a recent trend.
Another recalled their first time hearing “Black Moon Rising” on American Werewolf, noting that it became their favorite song ever since. “One of the first LPs I ever bought at 17 and wore out the needles,” a third user quipped.
John Fogerty shares a fun fact about Christmas Eve
In addition to the well-received update, John informed fans that Christmas Eve is a special day for CCR because he came up with their name on the same holiday nearly six decades ago. “Bad Moon Rising” was an instant hit from the band, previously known as The Golliwogs, and peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 weeks after its release.
The double-platinum classic was eventually included in the tracks for Green River, which was the group’s third album. Amid the celebration, John is set to perform later in January at Encore Theater at Wynn’s resort in Las Vegas.
