Former child star Macaulay Culkin, who became an international sensation for his portrayal of Kevin McCallister in the popular Christmas franchise Home Alone, has recently revealed to his fans that he almost got his hands on a piece of cinematic history all for a very hilarious reason.
In an interview, he explained that when the iconic Winnetka, Ill., home where the film Home Alone was shot was previously listed in the market for sale early in the year, a vague sense of nostalgia crept in, and he immediately considered the possibility of buying the property.
Macaulay Culkin gives the reason he wanted to buy the ‘Home Alone’ house
Speaking with the audience during a session of his A Nostalgic Night With Macaulay Culkin at Rosemont Theatre in Illinois, Culkin humorously disclosed that in a bid to preserve the legacy of the popular movie, he almost bought the Home Alone house that served his character’s family home.
He explained that his major reason for wanting to purchase the house was not to live there but to remodel it into a “movie fun house” where fans of the Christmas classic could visit to relive the experiences of their favorite actors and also get to perform some of the actions, such as sledding down the stairs of the house just like his character, Kevin, did in the film.
Macaulay Culkin on why he never got to fulfill his wishes
Although the actor was interested in getting the Home Alone house, sadly he was unable to realize the dream.
Giving his reasons for foregoing the purchase, Culkin explained that he has a really busy schedule taking care of his two toddler sons, whom he shares with his fiancée Brenda Song, which is a full-time job on its own. He further noted that his engagements with preserving the Home Alone legacy were also a key factor.
