Richard Gere revealed he was leaving the home he purchased from Paul Simon and Edie Brickell two years ago, noting that he wants to be closer to family. The film star recently sold the house for $10.75 million, which is $50,000 less than the amount he bought it.
The 1938 house occupies 38 acres of land and features six bedrooms and eleven bathrooms, a pool, gardens and a guest cottage in the compound. The former residents also sold the house at a more extreme loss having bought it at $16.5 million in 2005.
Why is Richard Gere leaving the US?
Richard told Vanity Fair Spain in April that he would love to spend time getting familiar with his wife Alejandra Silva’s origins, just like she had done by living with him for six years in the US. He would also love it if she were close to her family and her culture.
Aside from pleasing his wife, Gere also believes a good time awaits him in Madrid, Spain, as he will get to experience another culture not as a visitor, but as a resident. Also relocating are their two young kids, Alexander and James, however, their kids from each of their previous marriages may not tag along.
Richard Gere is keeping his New York home
Though leaving for Europe soon, Richard mentioned his other house in the countryside of New York, which he would not be selling. The 75-year-old could not wait to experience the hospitality and enjoyment of Spaniards as he gushed about their extraordinary food and beautiful sceneries.
Richard is making this big change for Silva, who he first met in Positano Italy 10 years ago. They were both divorced at the time, Richard from Carey Lowell, and Silva from Govind Friedland. They have been vocal about their love for each other on special occasions, including Richard’s 75th birthday in August when Silva thanked him for bettering her life.
