The world was shocked by Lisa Marie Presley’s sudden death. Lisa Marie, the only child of Elvis Presley with his wife Priscilla, was just 54 when she suffered a heart attack after just attending the Golde Globes ceremony. In the midst of what had been a celebratory occasion, Lisa Marie’s final Instagram post was, heartbreakingly, about grief just before her own untimely passing.
Lisa Marie was just nine years old when her father, Elvis Presley, died; he himself was just 42 years. Tragically, loss has plagued her family in the years since. Her son, Benjamin Keough, died by suicide on July 12, 2020. It was this loss that Lisa Marie was reflecting on when she made her final social media post.

Typically, Lisa Marie posted sparingly on her Twitter and Instagram accounts and was even in something of a hiatus until Baz Luhrmann’s recent Elvis biopic emerged. She broke her silence to praise the film. Then, last summer, she made what would be her final post. On August 30, Lisa Marie observed National Grief Awareness Day. On Instagram and Twitter, she shared images and links to her essay about loss and mourning.

“I thought I’d post it here in the hopes that anyone who needs to hear all of this it helps in some way,” she added in the captions of each post. The previews tell of how Lisa Marie was “destroyed” by the death of her son, yet she kept going “for my girls.” Lisa Marie was also the mother of daughter Riley and fraternal twin daughters Harper and Finley.
Lisa Marie Presley and grief
Several years ago, on Mother's Day, my son and I got these matching tattoos on our feet. It’s a Celtic eternity knot. Symbolizing that we will be connected eternally. We carefully picked it to represent our eternal love and our eternal bond. 💔😞 pic.twitter.com/FJlJFPzS4W

The post preceding that was just as bittersweet. Back in July 2022, she shared photos of the matching tattoos she and her son Benjamin got on Mother’s Day. “It’s a Celtic eternity knot,” she explained in the captions. “Symbolizing that we will be connected eternally. We carefully picked it to represent our eternal love and our eternal bond.”
Aside from original posts of her own, on Twitter, Lisa Marie had also shared other people’s words offering high praise for the Elvis biopic, which smashed box office records at home and overseas. All those words of praise, much of the Presley family echoed with approval of their own. The last few posts made by Lisa Marie truly show embody the definition of bittersweet.
