A lot of people go around collecting old coins as a hobby, but most individuals aren’t aware that they could hit the jackpot if they are lucky enough to find a priceless one. A coin professional on TikTok, aka thebowerscoinshow, has made it a duty to inform and enlighten other collectors on the features of certain coins and things that make them more marketable than others.

The TikTok user studies pennies, nickels, and quarters and then takes time to note and explain the key details to other users on things to look out for in their collections. Interestingly, the collector has moved away from the usual of majoring on one coin per video in his latest release; instead, he talked about two.

Bowers focused on and detailed the 1985 penny and the 1943 steel penny in his latest TikTok post, where he pointed out the features to check for in the coins. However, he claims people should pay more attention to the 1943 copper penny. He revealed that the 1943 penny and almost every other coin produced that same year were made from steel.

The collector noted some exceptions regarding pennies, which are manufactured from copper and coins with high price value. He claimed some sell as high as $200,000 to $500,000. Bowers also revealed that the best way to be sure that the pennies are made from copper is to do the ‘magnet test’, noting that if the magnet sticks to the penny, then it’s made of steel, but if it is the other way round, it’s produced from copper.

Bowers talks about other details to watch out for

The famous coin collector talked about the Double Die error, which sometimes occurs when the metallic materials used to create the coins features make multiple impressions of the text or image on the penny. When this happens, letters, numbers, and images on some coins get embedded twice in different places. However, this is very easy to notice as the error is glaring.

Also, another important thing to consider is the missing mintmark; this increases a coin’s worth if it is left out on accident or purpose. If the mintmark is left out on accident, collectors will pay big bucks.
