ABC is working on a new Beauty and the Beast TV special to celebrate the film’s 30th anniversary. The special is already receiving a lot of buzz due to the casting and more names have just been announced. Now, Martin Short is in talks to play Lumière while Shania Twain may play Mrs. Potts.
Singer H.E.R. has already been cast as Belle, Josh Groban as the Betast, Joshua Henry as Gaston, and David Alan Grier as Cogsworth. The iconic Rita Moreno has also been cast as the narrator of the special.

Reportedly, it will be filmed live and feature live-action performances as well as animated sequences. It will also feature never-before-seen musical performances and costumes made by Marina Toybina, who works on The Masked Singer.

The exciting special is set to premiere on ABC on Dec. 15 and will stream on Disney+ the next day for those who miss out on the live version. The special is based on the 1991 Disney animated film, which was the first animated movie to be nominated for a Best Picture Oscar.
The animated film also got its own live-action adaptation in 2017, starring Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, Josh Gad, Ewan McGregor, and Emma Thompson. Are you excited about a new live version of Beauty and the Beast?
