Actor and Michigan native Tim Allen recently forced a marina to close. Tim’s yacht reportedly leaked fuel into the water and forced the marina to close to clean it up over the Fourth of July weekend. The spill was reported late Sunday afternoon and the marina was closed until Monday evening.
Reportedly, the leak was from a fuel filter issue. Tim said that he was not aware of the leak until someone pointed out that fuel was spilling out. Leelanau Township Fire Chief Hugh Cook confirmed that it was an accident.

Tim shared, “I felt very uncomfortable closing the harbor down for everybody.” Cook added that he does not believe that any people or wildlife were affected by the spill and they cleaned it up. Tim will have to pay for the cleanup costs.

The marina reopened Monday evening after the cleanup. However, a nearby beach remains closed until they can prove that it is safe after seeing some of the fuel wash up on shore. While Tim is a native of Birmingham, Michigan, he often visits more up north areas to relax, including the area he was in near Traverse City.
Tim was also the voice of several Pure Michigan ads which promoted tourism in the Great Lakes state several years ago. While this was an unfortunate incident, it sounds like everything has been cleaned up and no one was hurt.
