Dave Coulier is opening up about his sobriety and how he’s grateful that he’s been sober while dealing with the deaths of his former Full House co-star Bob Saget, along with his brother and father. Dave said that he’s now realizing just how much his sobriety has helped with the grieving process because he knows he previously would have covered up his feelings with alcohol.
Dave shared, “My brother took his own life, and he was actually the funniest person I’ve ever known. My brother, Dan. I was the one who found him at my dad’s house down in the basement. A part of me died that day as well, because I really loved my brother.”

He added, “I made jokes to my friends and family and the line was, ‘Boy, I sure picked the wrong time in my life to stop drinking.’ And people would laugh at that knowing I was sober. And then my father passed away a couple of months ago, and I got to say all of the things that a son could say to his father about how proud I was.”

Then, Bob Saget unexpectedly passed away in January. Dave revealed that he had been talking to Bob the day that he died. Bob performed a comedy show before his passing and Dave said they had been texting and he told him to have a good show. He added that during their last conversation they made each other laugh “very hard.”
Dave shared more about his sobriety in March when he announced that he was two years sober. He shared a photo of his face all bloody after a drunken night and said that it was his wake-up call to change his life.
He concluded, “I thought to myself after those three lives were gone, I would’ve never been able to feel all of that if I was drinking, and it was really important to me to just feel that sorrow. There was nothing masking that, there were no layers that were covering that up. I thought to myself, ‘This is what I should be doing. I should be feeling this pain. I should be feeling this incredible love for these people.’”
